Avro 504K fighters of No 77 Squadron had Kilconquhar available to them as a Home Defence landing ground from late on in World War One, these aircraft remaining in service after the end of fighting. Woodland has taken over the eastern edge of Kilconquhar but this area of farmland is still locally remembered as being an airfield.
